William, a South Carolina native, was born in Camden and grew up in Lugoff, where he attended St. John’s United Methodist Church. After high school, he earned an athletic scholarship to Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri, where he competed in Saddle Bronc Riding. It was during his time at Missouri Valley College that William began to discern his call to ministry. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy and initially pursued a career as a professional rodeo cowboy. After six years on the rodeo circuit, William decided to hang up his spurs and apply to seminary.

William attended Duke Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina, where he met his wife, Laura. In June 2024, William was ordained as an Elder in full connection, marking a significant milestone in his journey of faith and service. William and Laura now reside in Columbia, South Carolina, with their son, James, and their two dogs, Finn and Murphy.
