Music

Lyttleton Street church cherishes a rich and enduring history of excellence in music and worship. Our broad-ranging music ministry includes classical choral works and hymnody through contemporary praise songs. Since all of our ensembles are un-auditioned, our music program presents opportunities for all who are interested to participate, regardless of age, experience, or membership.


There are many opportunities to support and participate in the musical life of this congregation.   • Chancel Choir

    Age: Middle School and older

    Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Choir Room


    This group leads singing at our traditional worship service from late August through June. Additionally, they present special programs and concerts, especially at Christmas.

  • Chancel Bells

    Age: High School and older

    Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m. - 6:55 p.m. (September - May/June)


    The five-octave Chancel Bells ring in worship and on invitation for community events, as schedules allow.

  • Contemporary Worship Team

    Age: Middle School and older

    Rehearsals:

    Sundays, 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. in the Gym

    Worship Leader: Dustin Raley


    The Contemporary Worship Team is the resident ensemble for our modern service, currently taking place in our newly renovated worship area in the Gym at 11:15 am. This group strives to lead worship through empowering the congregation through God's love and through leading songs that may be traditional, modern, or a blend of both.

  • Youth Music

    Age: 6th - 12th grade

    Rehearsals: Sundays, 5:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (August - May)


    Youth handbells ring repertoire up to a difficulty level 3. Enrollment varies between 3 and 5 octaves from year to year, with the possibility of dividing the group into Middle and High School ensembles.


    Youth Worship Team is a new ensemble consisting of youth who want to either sing or play contemporary praise music. The object is for the group to participate in UMYF worship times and potentially become part of the Contemporary Worship Team.


    Enrollment in the ensembles is offered at the first UMYF meeting each Fall.


    Members of these ensembles generally participate in LSUMC's United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF).


    All of our ministries involving children and youth adhere to our Safe Sanctuary Policy.

  • Children's Music

    Age: 4K - 5th grade

    Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (September - December; January/February-April/May)


    There are graded ringing/singing choirs for children at LSUMC during our Wonderful Wednesday program. The ensembles present music selections at both worship services and at special concerts. Schedules for worship and concert presentation are communicated to parents through printed material and digital reminders.


    The ensembles are:

    • Cherub Choir: age 4 - 1st grade
    • Carol Choir: 2nd - 5th grade
    • Chime Choir: 2nd-3rd grade
    • Elementary Bells: 4th-5th grade
    All of our ministries involving children and youth adhere to our Safe Sanctuary Policy.
